Howdy,
We started this channel to help empower people to handle their own Automotive Work. Handling your own work can be fun, challenging and sometimes frustrating. You will experience a great sense of accomplishment when you finish a job on your own, not to mention you will save yourself a ton of money in the process. Automotive work can be intimidating but we're here to show you it's not that hard if you have the Right Information, Right Tools and Right Level of Patience. We hope you take up the challenge!
We sacrifice a lot of personal time to research, shoot and edit our videos. Our favorite form of payment is hearing back from people letting us know how they succeeded with a job by using one of our videos. In the past, people have asked if we accept money donations so we decided to add a Tip Jar link for those that would like to send us a few bucks for our efforts. Money donations are appreciated but definitely not expected.
Happy Wrenching!

When the bikes is off is there no power to the switch cause I’ve seen guys tapping into some other wire but I’m thinking it’s for a 20 second delay or whatever ?
@zachelliott9355 If you powered the lights via a switch panel hooked up to auxiliary power, the lights will only power up when the key is turned to On, Auxiliary or the.vheicle is running. If you hooked up to a circuit with constant power, the lights would have power all the time.
Hey Tim! Keto Cave Man here! The guy who sent you the whiskey.... The UFO recovery vehicle has a request for a video. My drivers seat belt is weak on retraction...... How about a vid on a repair or hack? Thanks for what you do! My 99 has most of your suggestions! I still have the front wheel bearings to do and my back door motor is still strong as I've done the 4 door locks per your vids. 👽😎👍😁
@@KetoCaveMan That whiskey was good! Have you tried cleaning the belt? I've seen a video about it and other videos addressing the slow retraction.
@@TimmyTheToolman ok I'll look for the other vids. Thought maybe a new spring or wind up something mcgiver style lol
You guys recommend to replace the air regular filter to a oil. Filter ?
No, I wouldn't recommend those oiled filters.

@@manny1782 You're welcome.
When you are putting on the banjo cross pipe on fuel rail, if your valve covers off, I can't tell if they are off, because mines are not fitting, so I have to take valve covers off?
@CharlieCiampa Do you have a time stamp in the video you are referring to?
cant that tire movement also indicate UCA upper ball joint failure?
@patrickmaslowski9471 That amount of movement? Not likely from balljoint play.
I followed this video for the tear down, and Part 6 of the head gasket job for the rebuild. It went perfectly. Funnily enough the tear down revealed the right side cam was a tooth out. Once finished, I put the ignition key in and turned it without thinking what if...and my engine fired right up. Beautiful. Thankyou Timmy and Sean. Thank you. Next job is inner tie rod. You guys are simply the best.
@@andrewb2326 You're welcome. Good job getting it done.

@@dyardsale5475 Good choice.
how did you use the same inner axle seals for both abs and non-abs? In your two axle seal videos, the Toyota part #90310-50006 used is the same in both videos.. shouldn't the seals be different sizes due to the position in the axle.. really curious how that works..
The axles are manufactured differently but have the same diameter area where the seal seats into.
Where can i get the sleeves
They are part of a ball joint kit. Check the video description for the link. You can expand the video description by clicking on "more".
❤ Great video! Very well detailed! All step are shown clearly, and you made them easy to follow. You went through a lot of work to show how to set the camshaft and crank timing marks for multiple engine variations. Best video!!!
Thanks for the compliment. We appreciate it!
Anyone know if this bracket will work for the b&m 70268 cooler?
Beyond thankful for your videos to use as a reference when i'm tackling my repairs! Thanks so much, Timmy! 👐
Timmy, I stripped the aluminum threads where the tensioner pulley bolts in. Please help. How to I fix that??? Thanks in advance
@saadms You'll have to drill it out and either install a heli-coil or a time-seat. I had the same issue on a 3.4L engine.

U just helped me, my 95 Ram has started stalling sometimes at hot idle, and I'm thinking this could be what's going wrong, it's got 175,000 think it's time for a new one
@glenparks5175 Hopefully, the replacement fixes the issue with your truck stalling.
Great video!!! Thank you for posting. Is there any reason y'all didn't do practice cuts on the lower (throw away) section of the bumper?
@ianhilton4023 I'm glad you liked the video. We didn't think of test cutting on the other bumper section.
You know, i can't find the volume of the power steering pump reservoir. I just had to use a measuring cup and pour the fluid in, use the dip stick, and siphon more out until it looked right. Is there a general volume I should expect? My fluid was really low before so that wasn't a great indicator of what should be in there.
@@derekmoore1387 Fiil it until it's full based on the temperature of the fluid. Don't overthihk it.
Heres a tip.. Don't waste money on new injectors. Clean your old ones instead... They make a machine for that.
The company we promote in this video does clean injectors for people. If you want to wait for that service, you can.
I've found it's really easy to put the arms on with the engine out, lol.
Yeah, I can see that.
Got that same puller set! It's been great for me!
What’s the part number for those exhaust donut gaskets?
Hi Tim, will a trans from a 2000 fit on a 2002? Both 4WD.
@cesarescobedo2936 It will fit, but they are different transmissions. The 2001 and 2002 transmissions don't have a mechanical cable kickdown cable like the 96-00 have. The 01 and 02 were also paired up with a transfer case with a center diff lock. So, I think you'll have to get a transmission from a 99-00 rig.
Great video. Don’t buy parts from Rock Auto. Don’t really fit right and terrible return policy.
I personally don't buy from Rock Auto, but I know a lot of people do. Thanks for sharing your opinion about them
Thanks for a great video. Would you know if the 2005 Lexus GX470 uses the same u-joints?
Thanks. Unfortunately, I do not know if the GX470 uses the same u-joint for the slip yoke.
I confirmed through O'Reilly auto parts that it is the same part number for the gx470. However a recommendation for your viewers : i would not recommend any greasable aftermarket u-joint. Either buy oem greasable or if you're on a tight budget and have to go after market, go with the non-greasable. I ended buying two new oem drive shafts.
whiteline bushing > energy suspension (i have both)
Good to know! Why do you prefer white line? Any experience you can share? - Sean
@@TimmyTheToolman better product design especially in regards to the lower control arm bushings whiteline supplies a sleeve etc and you dont have to salvage the cam pin, would be main one, and they seem a bit more rubbery for urethane bushings than the red energy suspension ones (i have front/rear sway, panhard, and few others from energy)
Awesome tutorial. I have a tiny coolant leak from the intake manifold. I considered adding stop leak but after watching some Timmy videos have decided to do it right and get new gaskets under that thing. Little scared, but it's a clean engine and things should be fine. Thanks for the work you do, it's a real help.
@tikitavi7120 You're welcome, and good luck with the job. If you see any deep pitting on the heads, try using some Toyota FIPG 1282B to fill in the pitting and put the intake manifold gaskets over the top. Give it overnight to cure, and hopefully, your coolant leak issue will be fixed.
@@TimmyTheToolman I priced some of that today, they want well over a hundred bucks a tube, and of course, have none in stock. Any alternatives? If pitting is detected I will get some one way or another. Thanks again bro, you rock!

@@TimmyTheToolman Your follow up to these questions and problems speak volumes about your character. So many of us are on limited budgets and simply can't afford shop work. Guys like you really do make a difference. Cheers!
@tikitavi7120 I appreciate what you said. Sean and I do our best to answer people's questions and do it in a timely manner because people might be in the middle of a job and need help right now. We definitely know money is tight for a lot of people, and they can't afford to take their vehicle to a shop and pay the expensive hourly labor rates they charge. We also know people want to be self-sufficient and learn automotive mechanic skills so they can do their own work and know it was done right. Again, thanks for recognizing the contribution Sean and I make to the world. We appreciate it very much. Good luck with the rest of the job. Let me know how it turns out. - Timmy
How's the cooling of this cooler vs your old cooler? I have the same old one but am looking for something with a little more cooling capacity.
Not really a huge difference in cooling although I haven’t taken any crazy long trips while extreme temperatures… but I will say I like that it floats in front away from the radiator which gives it more room to breathe which is a good feature. It is a bigger cooler, and I like the way it’s mounted better. So all in all, I would go this route over any other option on the market. - Sean
Hey timmy - the drive pulley on the camshaft was not top dead center while the two cam shafts were top dead center. When putting the belt back on, should I crank the crankshaft to be top dead center or leave it how it was when I took it off?

In your opinion would it be better to have a single 36" socket extension to reach the top two bell housing bolts, or piece together shorter extensions including a wobbler? Thanks
A single 36" wobble extension would be pretty nice to have for this type of work.
I have this issue on my 99... I was a bit surprised by the link shown to an aftermarket part. Any feedback on how its treated Chris and his rig? OEM is brutally expensive!
His aftermarket booster is working fine.
Thanks again for this video!!! I'm also using the car care nut video, which is more concise at about 30 minutes. That's a great overview one, and this one is a great detailed process video with many tips and tricks. The CCN says to use the T on the cams for the timing marks and the corresponsing small mark on the crank. I'm half way through and about to remove the timing belt. I tried an air hammer to get the crank bolt loose, but I had to use a chain wrench braced against the frame, and then a breaker bar with a large extension pipe that fits on the end and a smaller extension bar inside of that for about a four foot length. It took a lot of torque! My thoughts on the camshafts rotating: I experienced this when doing the timing belt on my 99 CRV. I had to use the wrench on the camshaft trick too. When you're at TDC you'll have all valves closed for some cylinders, but others will be at BDC and so will be "on lobe". That would make the valve springs want to make the camshaft rotate. You want a neutral position where there's either no valve pressure on the cam lobes (don't know if that's possible), or a position where it's equalized for rotation each way. I'm presuming that's where the "T" position is. Hope it works out ok for me.
You're welcome, Craig. The Car Care Nut guy might have over a million subscribers, but he's got nothing on us when it comes to the detail we offer in our videos. When people get lost from another Toyota DIY Channel's video, they come to us for help. Thanks for verifying the T position works like many others before you have already told us. I hope the rest of the job goes smoothly for you. Happy Wrenching!
@@TimmyTheToolman Edit: got the belt on an most things back together. Honestly this would have been way more difficult without you guys! Thanks again so much!!!
@craigiefconcert6493 You're very welcome. I guess you're saying the 30-minute Car Care Nut video wouldn't have been sufficient to walk you through the whole job. I'm glad our 2-part series helped you get the job done. Happy Wrenching!

Can you mix Valvoline ATF and OEM fluid? (Drain and Fill)
Yes, as long as the spec is compatible. If they are both meant for Dexron 3 applications, you're good.

Why would the LSPV be bled last? Wouldn't it be bled after the rear brakes because of the distance from the MC?

@TimmyTheToolman Just watched. Nice man. Big difference. Hey, I've noticed in the videos that you're working usually on the concrete or with a little pad. Do yourself a big favor...I'm 73...and get used yoga mats at Goodwill. You'll thank me later.
By the way. What have you heard. That running wheel spacers...1 1/4"...will prematurely wear out seals? (And I wonder what premature means. 10k, 50k, 100k). Not that I'm too worried about it. AND...as long as I have your attention, thank you, what are your thoughts about leveling the panhard bar after a 2 1/2" lift?
@danielvoulkos8274 The Yoga mat idea is smart. Spacers supposedly put more strain on wheel bearings, but not the seals.
Best thing you can do is remove the parking brake altogether so you don’t have to deal with them ever again and then they won’t rub against inside rotor either plus who uses a parking brake nowadays ?
Interesting perspective. What would you do if you parked on a hill? Or you were off-roading and you needed some braking help from the e-brake? We wouldn’t recommend removing any of the safety features from your vehicle. - Sean
In addition to what Sean said, it's bad to rest the weight of your vehicle on the parking pawl. With enough repeated force, that pawl can shear and now you're looking at either spending a ton of time to fix it, or a ton of money to fix it. Your parking brake is what should hold the vehicle from moving, not your transmission. Something to think about Bro. No charge for the wisdom we imparted to you today. - Timmy
Brother, thank you a ton. You just saved me.from going crazy! Blessings on blessings to you and your loved ones.
You're very welcome. We're here to help, Bro! I guess our videos are better therapy than Xanax.
Idk.about that, but right there next to it.
I am gonna subscribe. Already hit that like button.

Hi Tim, I have 2017 camry xle at 113K. Never did transmission fluid change as i got sucked into lifetime. Should i do drain and refill?
Yeah, do a drain and refill, and then do another one in around 5k miles. Do a 3rd one in another 5k miles, and your fluid should be in good shape. After that, do a drain and refill every other engine oil change or every 10k miles, and your transmission will have a much longer life.
Hey yall, I just did my timing belt on my 07 Sequoia and I can confirm that using the "T" mark method for the camshaft pulleys worked as it should have, neither of my cams jumped. Thanks for all your work and for sharing the knowledge @TimmyTheToolman !
Thanks Trevor. Others have reported the same thing. I'm happy to know our video series helped you do the timing belt job on your Sequoia. Good job! Happy Wrenching!
